Congratulations to the week 9 440 Sports Show Player of the Week Sponsored by Sposito Insurance, Grand Valley Senior Jay Anthony Williams!!!

It was a wet day but the kids ran great at the MS State Championships today in Columbus! Sophia was 25th, Kinley 27th and Nolan 51st.

Good luck to our middle school cross country runners, Sophia J., Kinley F. and Nolan N., competing at the MS State Meet this weekend.

Great job by our MS Volleyball Teams ! 7th grade took 1st place in the NAC tournament and the 8th grade finished 3rd! Great season by both!

The Grand Valley football team celebrated Senior Night on Friday in dominating fashion.
JayAnthony Williams - one of 12 Mustangs who walked across the field for the last time at Reel Family Stadium - scored three times, GV ran for 263 yards and the defense controlled the second half to lift Grand Valley to a 42-20 victory over Vienna Mathews. With the win, the Mustangs improve to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the Northeast Athletic Conference.
"The boys played really well," Coach Matt Rosati. "We got off to a little bit of a slow start when we fumbled twice in the first half and they scored on us, but we destroyed them in the second half. It was a good win."
It was a 14-14 game at the half, With Williams scoring on a five-yard run and Carter Turk hitting Lukah Mramor for a 10-yard scoring strike. The halftime break gave the Mustangs a chance to make some adjustments and get ramped up for the next two quarters.
Those two quarters were owned by the home team. A 21-point third quarter essentially put the game out of reach.
Mramor got the third quarter going with an 11-yard touchdown run. Next, Turk took a quarterback keeper three yards in to the end zone. Williams then scored on an eight-yard run to open a 35-14 lead after three quarters.
Williams scored his third touchdown in the fourth before Mathews tacked on a late score when the game was already out of reach.
Williams carried 14 times for 123 yards and three touchdowns. The GV running attack piled up 263 yards on only 35 carries, with Mason Demshar (5-50), Mramor (5-46) and Turk (6-36) adding to the rushing totals.
Turk was 7-for-11 passing for 77 yards, with Mramor catching four passes for 77 yards.
Said Rosati of the Senior Night win, "It's big for them. That's something I emphasized to them before the game - it's a memory they won't forget. It's with you forever. Years from now when they're at their kids' Senior Night, they're going to think back to what their Senior Night was like."
Next up is a trip to Andover for a battle against rival Pymatuning Valley. The Mustangs are still alive for a playoff berth in Division II, Region 21, but as anyone familiar with the rivalry knows, the GV-PV clash runs a lot deeper than conference standings and playoff points.
"Yeah, this is a big one," Rosati said. "There are a lot of subplots to this one. I'm sure it's going to be a heated and spirited football game. We have a lot to play for."
