Today completes our GVHS rounds of schedule document distribution.
All students should have a copy of the class options available for the 2025-26 school year.
Please encourage your student to share these documents with you.
All documents related to hs scheduling can be found in the Guidance Google classroom (pgvvwec) including a full copy of the course catalog and a fees schedule for courses.
This classroom is a useful resource for families to sift through with their students to stay current on topics related to scheduling, the College Credit Plus program, scholarships, etc.

Letter from Dr. Nye to Future 5th Grade Families:
Dear Grand Valley Local Schools Community,
At Grand Valley, we take great pride in our dedicated teachers, outstanding students, and strong educational programs. However, as we look to the future, we must address some challenges.
Due to changes in our community, enrollment has declined, leading to a projected decrease in state funding. To ensure we continue providing the same high-quality education and opportunities for our students, we must consolidate resources and create greater flexibility within our staffing.
Our Elementary School operates with self-contained classrooms, where students have one teacher covering all core subjects, along with scheduled time for special programs such as music, physical education, and art. Staffing these programs remain relatively straightforward.
At the Middle School and High School levels, our teachers already teach across multiple grade levels within their subject areas.
Moving forward, I anticipate that by the 2026-2027 school year, all MS/HS teachers will instruct both middle and high school students under a combined master schedule, rather than separate schedules for each school.
One area that presents unique challenges is 5th grade, where students begin transitioning from a single-teacher model to subject-specific instruction. Traditionally, we have structured 5th grade as a transition year to prepare students for the next step in their academic journey.
To enhance staffing flexibility, we plan to adjust how 5th grade is structured. Since our 5th-grade teachers are certified to teach up to the 10th and 11th grade levels, we will begin utilizing them for high school courses.
As a result, we will relocate 5th grade back to the Middle School, allowing us to maximize our instructional resources while still maintaining a transitional environment. Students will experience a mix of self-contained instruction and some movement between classes, ensuring they are well-prepared for the structure of 6th grade.
While opinions may vary on the best placement for 5th grade, we believe this move will provide the necessary flexibility in staffing while maintaining a strong educational foundation for our students.
Despite these necessary adjustments, Grand Valley remains committed to offering high-quality academic programs, diverse extracurricular activities, and a positive educational experience for all students.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to ensure the best outcomes for our school community.
Thank you, and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Dr. William R. Nye Jr.
