Grand Valley band students excel at Solo/Ensemble contest! Grand Valley band students competed in the OMEA high school solo/ensemble contest held at Warren G. Harding High School on January 26, 2019. Students competed in three classes (A, B, C) and were rated on a scale of I - Superior, II - Excellent, III - Good, IV - Fair, and V - Poor. GVHS musicians did very well and received the following ratings: Class A: Brent Warring, Snare Drum Solo - I Ian Dyke, Snare Drum Solo - III Class B: Ashley Marcum, Trombone Solo - I Class C: Ross St. Amand, Clarinet Solo - I Ryan Shea, Alto Saxophone Solo - I Phoenyx Tosti, Baritone Saxophone Solo - I Isabella Pinto, Xylophone Solo - I Flute Trio (Alexis Mahaffey, Cassidy Glasier, Jessica Crouch) - I Keegan Friend, Trumpet Solo - II Trumpet Trio (Tyler St. Amand, Chad George, Dakota Goforth) - II Great job everyone!

The Grand Valley Production Crew is hard at work constructing their set for our upcoming spring musical, "Mamma Mia" featuring music by the hit rock group ABBA. The show dates are Friday and Saturday, 3/15/19 and 3/16/19, at 7:00 PM with a 2:00 PM matinee on 3/16/19. The show will feature the artistic talents of close to 100 Grand Valley drama students. Tickets will be $5.00 at the door, but reserved seating can be obtained through purchasing benefactor space in our program. Contact Don Dingman at (440) 437-6260 for information. Have a great day GV!

GVHS Announcements: Attention CCP students-You may receive a 1098 from Kent & EG as you are considered a college student. This award is considered a scholarship. Should your parents have a question, please tell them to call Mrs. Brumit for clarification. Friday all Freshmen will attend Kent State Ashtabula’s Discovery Day. Permission slips need to be turned in asap. Please plan to bring a packed lunch. If you need a lunch from our cafeteria, please let Mrs. Brumit know and they will create one for you. Any player interested in playing football in the fall, please sign up in Mr. Nims room, 208, by Wednesday. Any student interested in running track this season, sign up in Mr. Fisher’s room (girls) or Mr. Marinelli’s room (boys). There will be a parent meeting Thursday 2/14 at 6pm in the study hall. Senior pictures and baby pictures are due to Mr. Dawson by March 15th.

Congratulations to the choir students who participated in the OMEA District 5 Solo and Ensemble Contest at Warren G. Harding High School. Grand Valley took 12 solo events and brought home 9 superior ratings, 2 excellent ratings, and 1 honorable mention. Way to go, Mustang Musicians!

Physics Mousetrap Pickup Trucks. Cleverly using only a mousetrap for power, the students in Mr. Dingman's class had to design a “truck” that could haul a can of soda (aka ... a large hay roll) at least 2-meters. Future engineers at GVHS!
