Possible School Day and Bus Changes for All Students - Community Feedback Survey

Dear Parents, Staff and Community Members,

We are seriously contemplating going to a single school time for all students K-12 for the 2023-2024 school year.  Some of the reasons pushing this decision are:

  1. Our current enrollment is just over 900 students district wide vs. 1,425 students back in 2012. Due to the reduced enrollment we would be able to transport our students in a single bus route.

  2. When we send out our Elementary bus routes, many of our rural routes only pick up a minimum number of kids which is less than 1/3 of our capacity.

  3. Fuel costs would be reduced with a single bus run.

  4. Wear and tear on buses would be reduced as well as maintenance costs.

  5. Younger students would have the same schedule as their older siblings, so they can help them board and deboard the buses.

  6. All of our staff would be on the same schedule, which would lead to most after school activities commencing right after school.

  7. Buses would be available for all field trips and athletic events immediately following the single bus route student drop offs.

We are asking you to fill out this survey to give us some feedback and data to work with as we make this decision.  There are many advantages and some disadvantages of one common school time for K-12.  We would like to hear everyone’s input and comments by Monday, May 1, 2023, so we can consider everyone’s thoughts on this.  Your participation is greatly appreciated and we look forward to your response.

Thank you,

Dr. William R. Nye Jr.
