This is the letter that all middle school students received and will be bringing home today.  If you do not receive a copy and want to remove your child from the assembly, please print here and return to the school first thing in the morning.

To Whom It May Concern:

On Thursday, November 15, 2018, Grand Valley Middle School will be participating in an assembly called Rachel’s challenge.  Rachel was the first young lady who was killed in the infamous Columbine shooting. Her father has been an advocate for making schools safer places for children to attend. He now has a foundation that reaches out to schools in an attempt to train students about the importance of not isolating others and always being kind, as was his own daughter.  The purpose of the assembly is to talk to students and children about treating each other with respect, kindness, and to have ways to stop bullying. In the afternoon select students will be participating in FOR training. This training is going to actually train approximately 100 Grand Valley Middle School students on rolling out the above message for more than just one day. If you would like more information on Rachel’s challenge please go to the following website:  https://rachelschallenge.org/

If you would NOT like your child to participate in this assembly, please return this letter confirming this. According to the presenters of Rachel’s challenge, the main message is supposed to be about respect, kindness, and stopping bullying with very little about the infamous tragedy that happened and Columbine.

Please know, the assembly is really to help end this terrible epidemic of bullying and the more people involved, and students involved, the greater likelihood we will have to stop it.

After Thursday’s school day, please speak with your child about the assembly to find out what they have learned.

Thank you.
