Dear Families of Grand Valley Local Schools:

Ohio law requires school districts to plan and conduct a full scale evacuation for students every 3 years.  Grand Valley Local Schools will be conducting a full scale evacuation on September 7, 2018. All students will evacuate to Kraftmaid.  Grand Valley Local Schools is going to conduct the evacuation as realistically as possible. Once all students have evacuated to Kraftmaid, all students will board the bus they would ride home in the event of a real scenario.  The procedure at Grand Valley Local Schools is that ALL students, in an unplanned event, will board their school bus home. Here's the link to the bus location and number that your child will ride even if the child is typically a pick up or one who drives home.

In an unplanned evacuation, no students will be permitted back to the GVLS campus for the remainder of the day, therefore it is imperative that your child always know his or her bus number regardless of if he or she typically rides. Regardless of the time of an unplanned evacuation, elementary students will not board a bus until the typical boarding time, (the end of the elementary school day), in order to ensure that a parent/guardian is home in time to greet them.  

For the September 7, 2018  planned evacuation only, all elementary school students will walk back to the elementary school for the remainder of the school day.  All high school and middle school students will be bused home. Any student who drives, is an open enrollment pick-up,  works in the elementary school after the MS/HS day, or is an athlete who has a practice or a game after school, will be permitted to return to campus with the elementary school students for the planned evacuation only.  Please do not plan to come to the school if your child does not fall into one of these categories as the child will be riding the bus home.  Also, for the September 7, 2018 planned evacuation, you will receive a practice communication about the progress of the evacuation in order for the school to drill this aspect as well.  September 14, 2018 will be the rescheduled date if September 7th is canceled due to rain.
