From the desk of Ms. Cozad:

Good afternoon Grand Valley Middle school parents.  Boy oh boy, this was a long week. First I want to thank you all for taking the time and working with your children on their education.  I want to thank the teachers for their hard work, creativity, and flexibility in educating the students in this difficult time. This community never stops impressing me and for that I thank you.

A few reminders and new information as of today March 20th:

  • Don’t forget that next week, 3/23-3/27 is Spring Break and we will be observing those days as time off from schoolwork, however, if your children needed additional time getting assignments done from this week, that would be a great time to get caught up.

  • If you haven’t gotten any work for your child for the week of 3/16-3/20, please contact the Middle School Office when we return from Spring Break, because there has been a week’s worth of assignments that have definitely kept the students engaged for the majority of the school day, which will be hard to catch up if your child starts getting behind.

  • Teachers are being flexible but will be grading, so make sure your child is doing school work.  Some students are doing all Math one day and ELA the next and some are doing each subject daily.  We want students to do what works for them at this time

  • We are working on making sure all parents have access online to their child’s grades in order to keep up with what they are turning in or not.  Keep checking to see if you can log into parent access.

  • Please remind your child to check his/her school email address daily to communicate with teachers.

  • Also, don’t forget that your child has access to Moby Max and should continue using that program to help fill in the gaps for their learning.

  • Don’t forget, the school buses will be out delivering meals during the week of 3/30 again, so please come to a pickup point that is posted on our website and grab meals for your children.

  • Also at those food pick up locations,  we will have a drop off box for any Middle School work to be turned in for anyone who is not having success with the internet.

  • Please, anywhere you turn in work, use the envelopes provided to keep all of your child’s work together.

  • Starting on 3/30/2020 the office foyer will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 pm. to drop off work as needed, however, office staff will be very limited only on Mondays and Fridays.

  • There will also be a very limited number of paper assignments that can be picked up at all locations as well for the same reason above.  However, if you have the internet and CAN use the internet, please do so in order to stop the potential spread of this virus through paper.

  • Don’t forget to have your child check in daily on the internet with their teachers, this is how we are tracking the attendance of the students.  IF you do not have internet access, your child indicated as much last Friday to the staff. Those are the students we are making packets for, even though most students received a paper copy for the initial week.

Please remember, this is not what any of us consider “normal”, but we are all making the best in a difficult situation.  Most importantly, please stay healthy. Please follow the guidelines from our governor. With some of the best healthcare systems in the world, we are a fortunate society who needs to follow the guidance from the experts he is providing to us.

I can tell you I look forward to seeing all students’ faces and interacting with them again.  Take care and stay healthy.
